Burlington Fire Station Headquarters / Station No. 1
This extensive addition/rehabilitation project significantly updated a 30-year old facility that had seen few improvements over its lifetime. The fractured ground floor was altered to expand and update nearly all functional spaces while improving internal circulation. Interior public areas were all re-designed to full FADS accessibility standards. The 6,000 sq. ft. upper floor accommodates headquarter administrative functions above fire-fighting, training and a 6-person emergency call centre on the ground floor. Mechanic bays in the original facility were re-accommodated in a new fully-detached Mechanic’s Garage at the rear of the property. Upgrades to the building envelope improved energy efficiency via full replacement of all windows with high-performance units with the latest in solar rejection films and thermal break technologies. A broad addition along the front of the facility ostensibly re-styles the building in a modern idiom and site improvements surrounding the building complete the redevelopment scheme.
